KENNEDY CENTER PERFORMING ARTS SERIES ARTS-BASED PROGRAMMING
Registration for the series is free for all participants. If colleagues in your institution participate in viewing the series online, they should
register with the Kennedy Center Performing Arts Series web site in order to receive the full benefit of the live and archived programs. All programs in the Performing Arts Series are closed-captioned for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, are learning English as a second language, or are striving to master reading skills. MAPPING CONNECTIONS – NC MUSEUM OF ART
Saturday, August 6; 9:30 am–3:30 pm
Need help incorporating art into your curriculum? This free workshop will model strategies for making connections between NCMA
works of art and concepts you teach in the classroom. Be the first to try out a new and exciting online tool that helps you map curricular connections and build integrated lesson plans. Gather ideas and share feedback. 0.5 CEU credit will be provided (with prior school system approval). Open to K–12 educators of all subjects. Session is limited to 15 participants. Participants will be selected to ensure that different grade levels, content areas, and counties are represented. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail your name, grade level, subject area, county, and phone number to Ashley Weinard by July 11. NC SYMPHONY EDUCATION CONCERT WORKSHOP
2011Registration is now for the North Carolina Symphony Education Concert Workshop! (0.5 CEU Credit opportunity with district approval) -Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at Meymandi Concert Hall, Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, Raleigh, NC. The workshop includes teacher handbooks for the education concert program, interactive lesson demonstrations, and special appearances by guest artists, conductors, and musicians.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the first year the workshop will be video-recorded and posted for online professional development.  This will be available after August 16 for teachers unable to travel to Raleigh for the in-person event (Registration for online classroom is required and is fee-based). INTERNATIONAL EDUCATOR WORKSHOP: DEVELOPING IMAGINATION, CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
The second International Educator Workshop (InEW) for Pre K-12 teachers, school and/or arts administrators, teaching artists, curriculum developers, and college and university professors will be held at UNCSA August 1 - 5, 2011.  A limited number of scholarships will be available. This inquiry-based workshop places the arts at the center of the imaginative learning experience. Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in New York teaching artists will guide participants through personal encounters with performances and visual art work, hands-on activities, reflection, personal and group inquiry, and exploration of LCI's Capacities for Imaginative Learning. The methodology supports 21st Century skills and is applicable to all subjects across the curriculum. The workshop will encourage participants to consider the role of art and imagination in education and ways to bring them into classrooms. NCAEA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
The North Carolina Art Education Association will hold its annual Professional Development Conference in Charlotte from the evening of Thursday, Oct 13th thru noon on Sunday, October 16th, 2011.  Our conference information will be on the website soon.  Workshop and presentation proposals will also be available soon.  A link to reserve a room at the conference hotel will be online in a few weeks.  We will be touring many downtown museums and celebrating Romare Bearden's centennial with these museums. You will be able to experience the Cultural Mile in downtown Charlotte.

THE SURDNA FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS TO PUBLIC ARTS HIGH SCHOOL ARTS TEACHERS
The Surdna Foundation is pleased to announce the twelfth round of the Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program, a national initiative to support the artistic revitalization of outstanding arts teachers. Eligible teachers can apply for grants of $5,500 in support of artistic growth, with a complementary grant of $1,500 provided to each Fellow's school for post-fellowship activities. Up to twenty awards of $5,500 each will be made. Online Letters of Intent to Apply will be due by November 14, 2011.
